Report

After 2 games without a win, Juniors awaiting the visit of Tunbridge Wells looking to get back on track.  The home team, with a bare 11 again, looked good at the start and were looking like scoring early on.  Despite their early domination, Juniors had  to wait until the 10th minute to take the lead, the ball into the box was met by Lardner who was quickest to react after his first shot was well saved.

Juniors extended their lead around 10 minutes later, when Jennings controlled the ball into the box from the right and then hit a volley past the keepers dive.

Tunbridge Wells didn’t look as threatening as in previous seasons and Juniors were soon 3-0 up as Jennings got the ball from Jagelman and played in Howell, who finished well into the side netting.

Despite the home team’s pressure, it was the opposition who score next, a lack of concentration left 2 strikers with only Tom Revell between them and the Juniors goal, Revell won the ball but the ricochet left the front man through on goal and he finished well.

With the half petering out Juniors continued to press and right on the stroke of  half time extended their lead further with an outstanding strike from Marc Faulkner.  The Tunbridge Wells keeper came from his box to clear the ball, and Faulkner picked it up 4 yards into the Tunbridge Wells half, but wide on the touchline, he took one touch to control before hitting the ball back over the keeper’s head into the empty net, from around 40 – 50 yards.

Juniors came out for the second half knowing pretty much that the game was safe, but still looking for more goals.

Juniors 5th goal came from some brilliant play down the right hand side between Tom Revell, Marc Faulkner and Jason Lardner, before the later squared the ball leaving Jagelman with the simplest of tap ins from close range.

Jagelman then moved level on goals with Howell for the season with around 30 minutes to go as Lardner picked the ball up in midfield and played a defence splitting pass, Jagelman raced through and despatched the ball past the despairing dive of the keeper.

The visitors almost got a goal back straight away with the front man braking clear of Juniors backline, only to be thwarted by a big paw away from Nichols.

The keeper turned from hero to villain soon after though, slipping during a drop kick and the ball landing at the Tunbridge Wells midfielder’s feet, allowing him to find the net with Nichols struggling to make up his ground.

Rather than push on and score more, Juniors again led to their own downfall with more confusion as the ball was lost, leaving 2 men with only Tony Revell to beat, as with his cousin early in the game, Revell won the ball but yet another unfortunate ricochet left the Tunbridge Wells striker through on goal and again he finished well.

Juniors almost extended their lead right at the end but Jennings’ header was well saved.

Disappointing to concede 3 goals from mistakes but 3 points all the same.
