Report
Juniors visited High Brooms with a bare bone squad due to work commitments. Bolstered by an emergency signing and Faulkner “nipping out” from work to get to the game on the half hour mark.
Despite the small squad, Juniors started brightly and took the lead within the opening 15 minutes as Jennings found himself free of the last man and lashed the ball home despite wearing more knee supports than the average chemist has in stock.
The game continued with both sides playing well but with Juniors perhaps slightly on top.
Both sides had chances to score throughout the half, but were unable to take them. Casuals lost two influential players to injuries during the first period but were on terms with around 10 minutes of the half remaining. Juniors failed to clear a free kick into the box, and despite saving Harman’s first shot, Nichols was unable to block the rebound that fell kindly to the on rushing Colocini look alike in the middle of the field for Casuals.
Having led for the majority of the half, Juniors then found themselves behind seconds later as Scott was adjudged to have felled the Casuals attacker, and Harman cooly slotted home from the spot.
Juniors didn’t let their heads drop and were back level before the half time whistle was blown, Lardner charging forward and being felled, before dusting himself off to convert from the spot.
The whistle blew for half time with the game evenly balanced.
The second half was to be Casuals’, Juniors were still fighting but their level had dropped from that of the first half and time and again the Casuals front line was able to get too near to the visitors goal. Luckily for the East Peckham outfit they were unable to onvert.
Juniors themselves had chances, but they were few and far between. Bungay and Jennings were replaced by Lindsey and Faulkner.
The game continued with Casuals being the more threatening and with around 15 minutes to go they deservedly took the lead, as the right sided forward worked free of the Juniors defence and dinked the ball over the onrushing Nichols.
Casuals held on despite late Juniors pressure, and should perhaps have been awarded a further penalty.
The unbeaten run ending in the 9th game, with Juniors looking to get back to winning ways in the Kent Cup next week.
